STANDARD

Buyer understands that holes must never be cut in machine or fiber duct near a nip point due to the safety hazard to employees and customer assumes full liability for such holes if cut.Buyer is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the equipment. Before performing any cleaning or maintenance, the disconnect should be in the OFF position and LOCKED OUT with an approved lock and LOCK OUT/TAG OUT system. Removal of guards or safety devices voids manufacturer's warranty and may result in personal injury. Therefore, once cleaning or maintenance is completed, be sure to replace all guards and safety devices. To avoid a safety hazard, NEVER operate the equipment without guards and transitions are in place and doors locked.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Read and understand these instructions before operating any machinery.

WISE IS ETL CERTIFIED

The Wise Industries ETL Mark

Our Commitment to Safety

You already know many of our product features. In fact, many of them may play a role in your decision to buy our product. However, there is another important product feature that is not as obvious—the ETL Listed Mark found on many of our products.

The presence of the ETL Listed Mark on our products shows that Wise Industries has undergone and passed testing to rigorous industry product safety requirements, more specifically, the requirements of the Standard(s) for Industrial Control Panels (UL-508A). It’s an important step in the product cycle because it demonstrates our commitment to the safety and quality of our products.

Is product safety testing mandatory?

Within North America product safety testing is mandatory before entry into the U.S. and Canadian markets. However, the choice in testing partners to conduct the testing is ours. We chose the ETL Listed Mark, provided by Intertek, for a few reasons:

  • The ETL Listed Mark is recognized by all Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) including building code officials, fire marshals, and inspectors across North America;
  • The ETL Listed Mark is accepted by all major North American retailers;
  • Intertek is recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL);
  • Intertek is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada as an accredited Testing Organization and Certification Body.

Aren't manufacturers required to use UL for their compliance testing? Isn't this mandated by the standards themselves?

The simple answer to both questions is "no." In fact, this misconception has misled many manufacturers to believe that they don't have a choice in their third-party testing partner. To satisfy the prerequisite of having your products tested by an independent organization, the true legal requirement is that the testing laboratory must be a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) recognized by OSHA. Intertek is recognized worldwide as a competent testing, inspection and certification organization, and the ETL Listed Mark serves as proof of product compliance with national standards.

What’s the difference between the ETL Listed and UL Listed Marks?

Both marks demonstrate that the product that bears it has met the minimum requirements of widely accepted product safety standards as determined through the independent testing of a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). And, as part of that testing regimen, the product manufacturer has agreed to periodic follow-up inspections to verify continued compliance. So, the only real difference between the marks is in the service, and services, of the testing laboratory behind them. It's here that Intertek’s clients enjoy the real differences between UL and ETL. Our custom-tailored testing, quick turnarounds, and flexible work methods are literally changing the face of the industry by promoting an environment where the testing lab and product manufacturer work more collaboratively - bringing products to market more quickly, more smoothly, and more cost-effectively than ever before.

How can I learn more about the mark?

The ETL Listed Mark is the legal equivalent to the UL and CSA Listed Marks. A product bearing the ETL Listed Mark is determined to have met the minimum requirements of prescribed product safety standards. More>

How can I learn more about the NRTL Program?

The NRTL Program is part of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s directive to ensure products are safe for use in the U.S. workplace. It recognizes the capabilities of private-sector organizations to determine whether a specific product meets safety standards developed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), and others.
